Any ideas??

LO was sleeping pretty well (7pm-6am with only 2 MOTN feedings) until November 5th. He had been sleeping in our room in the bassinet and for a week or two I would start him out in the bassinet and then after the first feeding, put him in his crib in his room, then back to the bassinet after the second feeding. He did great. But on the 5th, he woke up every 30 minutes to an hour all night long. I thought it was his 12 week growth spurt. After the growth spurt ended, he was still waking every 30 mins to 2 hours. Not to eat - just to be cuddled back to sleep.

This is still going on. Every night. And it's gotten to where I'll pick him up, he'll fall back asleep, I'll give it a few mins then try to put him down again, but within 2-3 minutes of laying back down he will wake back up! He does better in his bouncer but I don't like letting him sleep in it all night long...I don't feel like it's very safe, even when he is strapped in.

Anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on? On his 3 month birthday we moved him to his room exclusively bc I thought maybe he was getting uncomfortable in the bassinet. I even slept on a mattress on the floor in there for a week to see if he would settle in there...but no. And he's never liked being swaddled. Sometimes I can manage swaddling his legs without a tantrum, but he likes the freedom. So any other suggestions?? TIA!

Re: Any ideas??

  • Got a nice smelling shirt of yours? You might try that, maybe the one you wore during the day, or in bed last night. If it's particularly cold there you might put it in the dryer for a tumble. Be careful if his milestone is rolling and your shirt is thick; I suggest putting it first underneath him then wrapping it under his arms. Leave enough for him to suck on if you like.

Also, does he nap well during the day? I read somewhere that babies who nap well during the day usually sleep better at night, and it might be a coincidence, but the first time my DS STTN was when he'd had three good naps during the day on a nice schedule. For him, even if he doesn't quite look tired, as soon as I see him yawn twice I put him down in the crib and he usually goes out in about 5 minutes at the most. Every once in a while he won't sleep. I've noticed only days he naps 3 times he'll usually sleep from 8pm to 6 or 7am. One time he woke up at 6 and wanted to go back at 7 and slept till 9, which was really nice.

Hope your LO sleeps well soon~
