Crib transition is emotional for me

SFM:  Crib transition is emotional for me

Yesterday we started the transition from RnP to crib.  After 2.5 hours we gave up and went back to the RnP.  Tonight we made some modifcations and DD has been sleeping for an hour (I am crossing my fingers she will give me her normal long stretch) BUT now I am getting emotional and tearing up.  Where did my little newborn baby go that I brought home from the hospital?  I think I will have to stop myself from scooping her up and bringing her into bed with me tonight.

 Anyone else?

Re: Crib transition is emotional for me

  • We're on attempt #3 beginning tonight. It's honestly been more my issue than DS. I hate knowing he's not right next to me and the monitor makes me so nervous that I will just wake up and stare at it. Just posting about it makes me want to run in there and get him... but I swear I will end up with a middle schooler in my bed if I don't take action now.

  • When I did the transition I would bring her into bed with me when she woke at 4am.  We would snuggle until she woke at 8am.  Eventually I kind of got over it and just let her sleep in her crib.  She sleeps well in her own room.  But YES I was so sad at first.

  • I did great until my husband moved out, now I am having a harder time with the transition. I have nightmares if he isn't in bed with me. Gotta work on that.

  • Our transition is taking a little time...it's been a couple weeks. She has just started to sleep longer in the crib. She was sleeping in the bassinet first, then the pack and play both in our room. She'd sleep from 8pm til 4-6am in the pnp. I figured if I started her in the crib the sooner the better then she'd start sleeping just as long as her brother. It took two weeks, but she's now sleeping until 4-6am like she did in our room. Hopefully soon she'll be waking up the same time her brother does. Makes it easier to sneak into the room and not worry about waking him up.

I agree...I was looking at her today and thought man...she's such a big chunk! :) I love her so much it's amazing she was the tiniest baby I'd ever seen three months ago.

  • Last night was DD first night in her crib in her own room. I was soo sad not having her next to me at night and had a little trouble falling asleep. To make things worse DH left for a business trip this morning. He will be gone all week, this is the longest we have been apart in 9 years....so as I was laying there last night I was thinking even if DD does well in her crib maybe this week I will bring her back into my room! haha she's been sleeping 9 hours so far, don't think we will have a transition issue.
