Ok so i am not necessarily complaining but hear me out. My DD sleeps a LOT, like to the point lately it's almost concerning. She is 9.5 months old. Here is her schedule :
Sleeps at night: 630pm - 7 am
Naps: 8am to 10 am
Naps: 1 to 3pm
Sometimes she even takes 15 min cat naps in between.
Im not forcing these times by any means. She gets cranky and fussy right around her nap or bed times. She goes to bed super easy, no protesting. Super happy to go to bed.
Today ... She woke from her afternoon nap at 3 and was tired at 430. I put her down just to see and she passes right out. I feel like she has been sleeping ALL day!! Is this normal? She started crawling a few weeks ago and is definitely more active but wow....she is not exhibiting any signs of being sick. She is teething though.
Any advice? If this is normal then I will count my blessings but I've never met a kid who loves sleep as much as mine.
Re: Is it possible for a baby to sleep too much?
I think that sounds normal, some babies just need more sleep then others... enjoy!! If your DD had no other health issues and Dr. has no concern then it is fine. Also, the extra nap can be a growth spurt.... maybe you had been more busy other days and she is catching up etc. On the other hand, if DD has health issues then it could be a cause for concern if it is out of the normal for her sleep habits. I say this because DS was born with congenital hypothyroidism and he is on daily thyroid meds.... I have come to realize that when he sleeps A LOT more then normal he needs his meds adjusted.
EDIT: Also note that a "normal schedule" for DS is 6:30pm-7am, nap1 about 1 hr and nap 2 about 2 hrs. if thyroid is off he will sleep in until around 8 or 9am and nap 2 hrs in AM and 2-3 hrs in afternoon
I'm guessing it's a growth spurt or that she's just a kid that needs more sleep. My son is a sleeper too (I think he's making up for how awful of a sleeper he was for his first 6m!). He's pretty much ready for a nap after being up for only 2 hours playing. He sleeps about 13-14h at night and about 3-4 hours during the day.
I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as she's doing all the things she should be doing while awake. Her sleep will even out over time.
