Trying to go back to breast...

From exclusively pumping. Had a great consultation with a lactation consultant today, and I think we will be able to transition over. My DS is 16 days old, and I have been pumping the whole time. I was able to feed him during the consultation from my left breast and then when we got home, was able to feed him more and empty the left breast. Now my right is getting engorged. Should I pump? Or tough it out? I will have to pump at some point to prepare to go back to work in 6 weeks. I wish this wasn't a transition that I had to make, but I gotta get something figured out!

Re: Trying to go back to breast...

  • You can pump a little to relieve the engorgement and then offer the baby the right breast.  Sometimes, the hardness of the breast is hard for the baby to deal with so relieving the engorgement could help the baby latch.
