Re: barnyard stink

  • Barnyard is typically resolved by adding more detergent. However, anecdotally, I thought our ammonia build up was barnyard at first, and increasing our detergent didn't work (never had that nose-burning smell, but it was ammonia). Same problem you seem to have - diapers smelled clean out of the wash but I could SMELL the moment he peed. The dipes were rank. I washed them, then hot water stripped the hell out of them. We ended up changing detergent and increasing our wash time also. So:

    1) I would try adding more detergent if you think it is barnyard, and rinsing well - no bubbles/clear water. This may take a few wash cycles to improve.

    2) If that fails, hot water strip the crap out of them once they're clean. If there are just a few fitteds with this problem, it might be easiest for you to hot water strip them on the stove if you can't get a full load worth in the wash.

    Hope this helps!

  • Ditto on above but my barnyard kept haunting me until I broke down and purchased some Rockin? Green?s Funk Rock.    Since doing the soak and using it in every pre wash my barnyard has stayed outside (we live in a farm).
