I have some sort of tummy bug that is causing vomiting and diarrhea, and nothing is staying down. Anyone know if pepto bismol or Imodium are safe while breast feeding ? Or anything else that will help? Tia!
Imodium is safe. But it's usually best to let the bug run its course. Your body is trying to get whatever it is out of your system.
A natural remedy that worked for me last time I had the stomach flu, was sipping room temp, flat Coke. My OB's nurse recommended it [I was pregnant at the time]. It settled my stomach very quickly. You just pour the Coke back and forth between two glasses to get the fizz out. Then take tiny sips every 10 to 15 min.
It's okay to skip eating for several hours, you just don't want to get dehydrated. If you can't keep water/coke/Popsicles down and you're not peeing at least every 6 hrs, you'll want to go in for IV fluids. Sometimes water can bother an upset stomach, so sometimes something like Popsicles works better to provide some fluids.
Hope you feel better soon. Stomach flu is the worst!

Watch out asking a dr or pharmacist because "safe" for baby and lowers your supply are different. A lot of drugs are ok for the baby to get through your milk but they could dry you up.
