EBF and going back to work

My LO is 9 weeks old and I will be returning to work in 2 weeks, she is EBF and I'm trying to introduce the bottle. How often do I bottle feed vs BF? I don't want to confuse her. LO has refused the bottle for the last 4 days we have tried a couple of times a days and final she took it tonight. I'm now not sure on how to balance things EBF, bottle and pumping. Please help.

Re: EBF and going back to work

  • Try only bottle feeding for the hours you will be at work, then nurse the rest of the time. This will set up a good pattern to let your LO get used to before you return. This is what we did for DS1 and it worked just fine.

  • Are you trying the bottle? DS would only nurse with me and would take the bottle with mil or one of my sisters. Rarely did he take it if I were inthe house.

I didn't do a "trial run" of giving him bottles during daycare hours because he wouldn't take them from me. I just dropped him off at daycare with bottles and knew he'd be ok. I nurse pretty much for every feeding but occasionally if we are out, he takes a bottle. He actually doesn't have a problem getting a bottle from me now.

  • We did one bottle a day for the few weeks before starting daycare. I had DH and the grandparents give bottles so he would take them from several other people.
