Zara

We are thinking of the name Lucy Zara.  Lucy is for DH'S mother.  We would call her Zara.  I don't know why, but I love the name.  I have gotten a lot of "I love the store".   What do you think?

It's a pretty name, but I automatically thought of the store when I saw this post's title. If the association isn't a concern for you, then go for it, but the child might wish she weren't named after relatively inexpensive but somewhat trendy clothing.

Love Lucy, but yes it reminds me of the store. That's cool though, bc I love their clothes.

I have never heard of the store but I went through the same thing with loving the name Matilda Jane but I couldn't get past the little girls clothing sold at trunk shows that look like clown clothes.

why not switch it go Zara Lucy if you are already planning on calling her Zara? Then it wouldn't sound like the store.

Well, I've never heard of the store so I just searched "Lucy Zara" and got a whole bunch of X-rated sites for some English bondage gal...

That aside, I like both names.

It is actually a store called "Zara" lol.  They are in a lot of different countries including the U.S. My brother in law saw one in China last week.   My sister saw one in Dubai.  I heard of the store after we thought of the name.  Now I feel like it is similar to naming her Forever21.....but I still like it.

I have no clue what store you are referring to, but I like Zara Lucy better anyway. If you're going to call her Zara anyway, why not just name her that?

I have never heard of the store, so that doesn't bother me, but why name her Lucy if that isn't what you will call her?

I've never heard of the store. I think of the Zara Phillips, the Queen's Grand-daughter. I really like it.  I would probably do Zara Lucy because I don't get the name one name but use the MN.

I think they sound nice together and the Zara store association doesn't bother me on its own, but the fact that BOTH Zara and Lucy are the names of clothing stores might make me reconsider. What about something like Lucy Sarah? I think that's really sweet.

I really like Zara. Ive never heard of the store. I had a college professor named Zara and she was/is a very accomplished woman.

A MN used as a FN always bugged me a bit as well.  DH wants to honor his mother, Lucy, with a first name....but we both want to call her Zara instead.   MIL is soo sweet and lovely.

Matilda Jane was our top girl name for a while, and I had a hard time getting past the clothing company too.  We're using Matilda Irene if this baby is a girl.

I'm familiar with the store, but I think of the British royal more than the store.  I love the name Zara!  I'm trying to get DH on board.

I like Zara.  To me it's unique but doesn't sound made up to me.  I've never heard of the store so I assume it's a regional thing.

If you want to call her Zara then make that the first name. You can still honor mil with the middle name. Personally I would think its kinda rude to use it as a first name but not call her that. My husbands family did this to him. It's been a nightmare. Everywhere he has to explain that he doesn't go by his first name he goes by blah blah. It's a pain when doing anything where you have to fill out information. It would just be a hassle for your daughter.

I've never heard of the store, but I've known 3 Zaras - one in high school, one in her thirties and one 2 year old girl. I think it's a pretty name and a unique alternative to Sara, Lara, Mara, Kara, etc.

Zara is nice, I like it a lot! I immediately thought of Zara Phillips, the queens granddaughter who is an Olympic athlete! Never heard of the store.

Please don't name her one thing and call her by her middle name, my DH goes by his middle name (first name same as his dad) and it always bugged him to have to constantly correct people.

I've never heard of the store. I like Zara. If you're going to call her Zara then I don't see why you wouldn't name her Zara Lucy instead. I think it's pretty!

I feel like it is more dishonoring and insulting to say that we are naming our baby after you but we don't actually want to call her your name.  If you are going to call her Zara, then make her FN be Zara.  MIL should be honored to have the baby's MN be Lucy after her.

I don't have the store association. My first thought was the Princess Zara Phillips. I will say I'm not a fan of giving a first name you don't intend to use. If you like Zara, name her Zara.

I love Zara.  It's one of my favorite names, actually, but we can't use it due to our last name.
