Preemies

Are you taking LO to get a pic with Santa?

My LO isn't technically a preemie (37 weeks), but had IUGR due to my pre-e so has had some issues similar to what some preemies have.  Because I am concerned about him getting sick (and losing weight) I have even kept him out of daycare and am having a nanny who is also a CMA/CNA.  He is doing well at 2.5 months except for his weight gain slowing and some GERD and other digestive issues. However, I am still uber scared of him getting sick...and so is DH.  In fact, I've had a cold and DH has not let me get close to him for 5 days now. :(  At any rate, I want to take him to get pics with Santa, but I'm scared of the germs.  Am I being paranoid?  Do you plan to take your preemmie to see Santa or did you take him/her for his/her first Christmas?

Re: Are you taking LO to get a pic with Santa?

  • I bought DH a Santa suit and will be doing Santa that way.  I just have no desire to put my daughter on a sofa or on Santa's lap, where tons of other kids snot/saliva/drool have been.  I know that I'm being super-cautious, but there isn't a picture with Santa that is worth the potential for Adalyn to catch a cold.  My situation is different, however, since she has BPD and has been off the oxygen for about 4 months now.

  • We waited until ds1 was 2 before doing Santa. We wanted him to enjoy it since it's not just about our cute photo op. and I was freaked about germs. He had rsv at 5 months.

Ds1 will see Santa this year, but by himself. Ds2 is way too fragile. Next year the two of them together. Maybe.

  • I brought my son to see Santa his first Christmas.  He was a 34 weeker and he was probably about 11 weeks old.  I did bring purell and asked Santa to use it, which he didn't have a problem doing.  I laid my sleeping baby in his arms for a couple of quick photos and that was it.
