Legs not arms?

LO found his legs a few weeks ago. He kicks up a storm, especially at bath time. He has a kick toy on his stroller that he loves.

But he hasn't found his arms yet. He doesn't really reach for anything but will grasp things you put in his hand. He's also a disaster at tummy time he doesn't use his arms to push up at all, although he does hold up his own head and looks around before he starts wailing anyway.

How can I help him find his arms? I've tried toys, my face...what can I do? He's 12 weeks.

TIA!

Re: Legs not arms?

  • Our DD loves to play with her hands and has started grasping things. She also loves kicking her legs. That being said she hates tummy time! Always a fail! She can hold her head up but will NOT push up on her arms! That being said DD likes to hold onto lighter toys. I find that keys and other toys tend to be heavy for her. We used a very small ring rattle that we would place in her hand and shake. From there she started to grab things. But watch out because once DD found her hands she started grabbing/pinching my arm during diaper changes!

  • It took my son a while to reach for toys and grab things.  He started grabbing things close to 4 months, which seemed like it was so much later than other babies.  But he did it on his own time and it was no time before he was shoving Sophie the Giraffe in his mouth (lol that was the easiest toy for him btw) and crawling just a couple months later.  I'm sure your LO will start doing it on his own one day very soon!  Just keep encouraging him. :)
