Can someone tell me...

Why my child can lay down on her own and fall asleep for naptime like a champ at daycare - but at home, she fights it and screams and is just plain miserable about naptime?  It makes me really anxious about spending all day together on the weekends because it's really just miserable..

Re: Can someone tell me...

  • I think this is pretty typical :-/ My DD goes down easily for me for naptime now, but that's because I worked really hard to get to this point. However, when we have a babysitter once or twice a week, she will give me a harder time than usual that day and/or the following, because all of her grandparents/aunts/whoever is babysitting rocks and holds her to sleep (even when I ask them not to) and she tries to get away with that with me, as well. She put up a fight going down for my DH as well for quite awhile, but she's getting better with that, too. I think she just likes to see who she can get away with what. Already. lol.

  • I've noticed he seems to be fussier with me in general, especially if I've just come home or something. I think it's separation anxiety. MIL will rave about how great and wonderful and happy he's been for her and then I walk in the room and he melts down. I wonder if he just kind of forgets about me when I'm not there but when I come back he remembers me and gets upset that I left and doesn't want me to leave again. If this is the same for your LO it may be translating to naps. I know my guy is in a phase where he needs me in the room to fall asleep peacefully, if I leave he'll scream until I come back. Thankfully it doesn't take too long of my rubbing his back before he's out.

  • Hayley does something similar. She can conk out so easily at her grandparents while I'm at work. She'll be mid play and then passed out.

At home - I HAVE to BF her. She will not fall asleep without nursing at home and sometimes it drives me bananas!
