STM's What pump parts need replacing?

I'm trying to come up with a list of things I need for Baby #2 and wondered what I might need to replace as far as breast pump parts. I have an Ameda if that makes any difference. I was just a supplemental pumper so I don't think anything is really worn out, but wasn't sure if just sterilizing was ok or if I need to replace parts to make it sanitary for the new baby. Anyone know anything about this?

  • I replaced the tubing on my PISA. And the valve membranes. But that's it.

  • No milk gets in the tubing of an Ameda, but if it's been a while since you used your pump a new set might be called for just because of the plastic breaking down.  I would replace the valves and diaphrams.  You can just sterilze the flanges and bottles.

  • Thanks so much for the input. I saw a spare parts kit on Amazon I'll probably grab. Thanks!

Call your hospital and find out what kind of pumps they have in the room. I also have an Ameda and that is the brand my hospital had.  I asked the lactation consultant for a kit so I could try pumping if needed, DD was Jaundice and they suggested formula to get her moving if my milk did not come in, I wanted to have some reserve so I could offer BM since DS was also mildly jaundice.  The kit they gave me had the tubing, valulves etc... so I did not need to buy anything to replace other than some additional bottles.
