Best formula for supplementing

Hello ladies! I have a 4.5 month old that never learned to latch properly so I mainly pump and bottle feed her. I think my supply is going down and I need to supplement with formula while I work on bringing my production up. I tried one formula and DD hated it. Does anyone know which formula tastes more like breastmilk? I appreciate any help.

Re: Best formula for supplementing

  • No formula will taste like breastmilk but you can try mixing formula with breastmilk to get the baby more used to the taste. Try only a quarter formula to start and increase it from there. HTH!

  • I used formula for my daughter and out of all the brands we tried, Good Start was her favorite. She also never had tummy troubles with it.

    Good Luck!

  • We used Good Start when we had to supplement at all during the first 6 months... I quit pumping after 6 months and switched to Bright Beginnings formula.  It's much cheaper, although you can only get it online (at least in the midwest, we don't have it at any of our stores).  GL
  • I used targets version of simlic but my middle wasn't picky.
A friend with a very picky baby will only take gerber.

  • I had to supplement and DD hated formula. She would only take it if it was very warm the whole time and if I mixed it with breast milk

  • my LO is EBF so I don't have too much experience with formula, but when he was in the nicu for 2 days, the nurses fed him "alimentum" because they said it was the closest to breastmilk, so I thought I share this.

Also, I had some serious supply issues and tried everything possible... but as a last resort I started taking domperidone and I have tons of milk. LO is satisfied and gaining faster than before.  So I thought I'd share that too.

  • Thanks everyone! I have been mixing the formula that I have with breastmilk and giving it to my daughter warm and she is actually taking it now, although she still gives me funny looks : I'm so relieved!

Ive never heard that about alimentum. I just thought it was soy and milk free. So mspi babies could drink it.
