thrush will not away.. help!

i am so frustrated. ive been using the all purpose nipple ointment on off for 2 months.i take probiotics and practically overdose on yogurt, air dry, vinegar rinse, and boil all pump parts and nipples and it just doesnt help!  it seems to affect the right nipple more than the left. and using that cream on and off like that can not be good for her. i am getting shooting, throbbing, pains and now the cream doesnt seem to be responding at all. her pediatrician prescribed her nystantin which shes been using for a week, even though she has no symptoms. what dr do i go to to treat this? the OB is telling me to call the LLL, and the LC's are telling me i have to go to my OB. i am so annoyed and miserable over this. i will be so depressed if i have to give up.  how did you get rid of your thrush?? could it be something else like a bacteria infection? please help! i dont know what else to do

    I'd look into staph infection.

intersting article.. thanks. i would think the mupirocin in the APNO i use would treat staph if thats what is was. maybe i would need an oral from?

  • It could be that the APNO antibiotic just isn't strong enough to kill it off, or it might just take a long time to be effective.

It just sounded just like Dr. Jen was saying - that you've treated the hell out of yeast and still have pain.

i actually have vasospasms as well. my nipple turns white and sometimes purple. i put dry heat on them when it turns white & that helps. i feel like i have every problem is the world when it comes to BF.. its so annoying because i want it to works so bad. she had a horrible latch in beginning which im sure caused all these problems. i def feel like its thrush though becuase its shiny, irritated and angry pink.

No side effects that I can remember and not sure on the dosage, it was over 2 years ago.

  • I had thrush and was prescribed diflucan.  It was the only thing that killed it plus treating LO at the same time.  I actually had to do multiple rounds of diflucan before it went away.  I did not have any side effects.  My ob prescribed it.

  • I was treated for thrush for two months with my DD including taking Diflucan. Nothing worked and I was ready to give up. Finally, I saw a specialist doctor who was also a trained LC. She immediately diagnosed me with contact dermatitis. My DD was 5 months old by this stage. The doctor gave me the right cream and within days it cleared up. It saved our breastfeeding.

  • I was on 2 rounds of Diflucan (2 weeks and then 3 weeks after immediate recurrence).  Finally worked!.  My LO had no symptoms either and was on Nystatin but gave him horrible gas/tummy pain.  My LC recommended GSE and this article.

I don't give it to LO anymore but I use once daily orally and once as a breast wash just for maintenance as I am terrified of it coming back!!!

    Good luck.
