S/O no seatbelts

At the thousands of lake communities here people often drive from their cabin to the boat launch with everyone sitting in the boat. Is this side eye worthy? So far we have kept DS in the car seat and switched him over to the boat once it is in the water.

The also frequently cruise around the village in golf carts with babies on their laps.

Re: S/O no seatbelts

  • The boat... Yes yes yes. A trailer is not the spot to be in a wreck. Let alone a trailer without restraints. It's like riding in the pickup bed, but the bed itself becomes a projectile. The areas I boated in growing up that was considered very risky.

The golf cart... Eh. Not super safe, especially if they share the road with cars, but they aren't tippy, are very stable, and unlike tractors, if you fall beneath it is less likely to crush you.

  • The do share the road with cars and big boat launching trucks. Most of the people at the lake on a long weekend go there to get drunk. That's when my eyes go sideways.

  • Side eye worthy. It's illegal here, same with riding in the box of pick up trucks, riding in campers and trailers, and towing couches. Dh is in emergency services so I've heard all the horror stories. Especially the dude that fell on the prop going over a speed bump. Dh's buddy say. Whatever, keeps us employed. Nice, thanks boys.
  • I feel all panicky still at the THOUGHT of seeing people ride in the boat while trailering.

I don't know if I'd want to golf cart with DS in that situation. I would side eye, but may not really judge.

The boat, I would have a hard time shutting my mouth.
