What a day! (vent)

A little back story: Last Thursday I went to the doctor for what I suspected was a stomach ulcer. My doctor side-eyed my symptoms and started me on treatment for heartburn (trust me, it doesn't feel the same), and I was tested for a bacteria that causes stomach ulcers then sent on my way.

By Monday, DS needs to be seen at the doctor for what ends up being his 6th ear infection and a diaper rash that turned into a yeast infection.

Today, DS wakes up with a rash on his chest and back. We head back to the doctor (seeing the one I hate at the practice). She confirms that DS is infact allergic to Amoxicillin. Then refuses to give him a different antibiotic because she wants to wait and see what happens with his red ear. I'm so sick of her wait and see method! This is why I normally take DS to an ENT. So I put a call in to the ENT and she agreed that he needed to be on meds for the recurrant infection. Luckily she was ok with just calling in the meds to the pharmacy, and we didn't need to come in.

Later today, my doctor calls me to say that my test results came in and I do infact have that bacteria that causes stomach ulcers. So antibiotics for me as well.

Good grief! And I thought the holidays were going to be complicated! Thanks for reading!

  • Poor mom and baby.  It sounds like it is time for a new pedi.  I can't imagine keeping a LO on a medicine that they are allergic to.  What if his reaction got worse?  That could be a basis for a malpractice suit if anything happened to your DS if you kept him on the Amoxicillin.  Glad your ENT was good enough to give you what you need.

As for you, just take it easy and I hope you feel better soon.  And baby too.

Oh my gosh! I just re-read what I posted (I didn't catch it in my pre-post read through). It was supposed to say that the 2nd pedi, not the orginal prescriber, took him off the meds but refused to give him something else. The reason for her not wanting to give him something else was because she wanted to wait and see if the ear was going to get better or worse.  I'm sorry this wasn't in my orginal post.
