Refreezing BM

Is doing this really a big no no?

Today, I left 3 bottles for my little man while I was at work (12 oz and I worked 8 hours) He went through all the bottles and my mom said he was still very hungry and pulled a bag out of the freezer. It was a 4 oz bag and he only ate 1 oz.

I really hate to dump it out. I'm off tomorrow and plan on nursing only so I don't want to feed him a bottle. I work full time and look forward to my days off where I can nurse him all day.

Why am I not suppose to refreeze bm? Has anyone done it?

Thanks!

Re: Refreezing BM

  • I wouldn't refreeze it. Either dump it out or feed it to him tomorrow morning and pump during that feeding.

  • At the BF class I just attended, the instructor recommended not freezing more than 2 oz. in a bag (even though there's room for more!) because then you risk wasting or having to dump more.
