TTC After a Loss

(NBR) Any runners out there?

So as I have mentioned before, over a little over a year ago I had my ACL replaced.  Since then I have been working on rehab.  One of the things I do is a jogging walk combo cycles.  Today I did 2 min jogging and 3 min walking to add up to 5 minutes cycles.  I do six of these cycles to add up to 30 min.  Every week and a half I try to add 30 sec to jogging section and reduce the walking part by 30 seconds.

The following day after running, the lower inside of my knees really hurt especially when going down the stairs.  I am not sure if the pain is because my ACL is still healing and I am compensating or what.  I was wondering if you had any suggestions on my stride, or websites I can check out to improve my run, or anything.  I use to run a little before hurting my knee but have never really been big into running but now I want to be.  I am just worried about doing more damage than good.    I know running is pretty high impact but I enjoy getting out in nature.  Any advice or guidance is appreciated.

  • Do you have a Fleet Feet store near you? They watch you walk and run and recommend a shoe that would work best for you. It could be something like a bad or old shoe. My knees used to brother me until I got better shoes.
I should add I've never had acl issues, so I can't offer much.

There isn't a Fleet Feet store really close to me but there is a store that does similar things not too far away.  I was going to go there after christmas to get the correct shoes for me but I may need to do it sooner.  By the end of my jog/walk today, I was ready to cry.  It just really aches.  Thank you for the suggestion.  I think the correct shoes could go a long way to fixing it.

  • Do you pronate? Maybe your gait is different now and orthotics would help you. Superfeet work well.

If you've never had your stride analyzed at a running store, I think it's really worthwhile, especially given your history. My corrective shoes really changed my running for the better.

Thank you!  I guess I may just have to do this before Christmas.  It will be my present to myself.

It probably is a lot different.  My left leg is stronger then my right these days. Thank you

I also like Runners World magazine and website for quality advice, but it's easy to get discouraged reading about those women who run 5 miles before breakfast. I'm not and will never be one of them! But there's good advice there. I've done the couch to 5K program a few times. It's a good plan. I think I'm about to start again, actually, after several months of very little running. Good luck to you!

I will look at it.  I will never be one of women either.  I love sleep and getting out of bed is hard enough.  I think next spring I will try a 5k once my knee is stronger! Thank you for all the helpful advice.
