I'm going to finger paint with Mikey. Any tips?

So for Christmas this year I am stealing an gift idea for my parents from Pinterest. I blew up a picture of the 2 of them and Mikey and got a thick white mat for it. We're going to let him fingerpaint the mat and then frame the whole thing. 

So. Here are my questions: 

1. Should I do a trial run? (Am I crazy for even asking this?)

2. I have 6 different colors to use. Should I use one and then let it dry...then another...then another? It's been a heck of a long time since I've dealt with paint.

3. I plan on putting a tarp on the floor, getting him naked and letting him go to town. Thoughts?

Am I missing anything?

1 more thing-- I bought regular Crayola paint because the fingerpaint box only had 4 colors. LAME. It seems to be a little thick so do you think I can add a touch of water?

If you're looking for something "specific" like a hand print or foot print, I might do a trial run.  If you're just wanting it to be "random" them let him at it!  If you're wanting prints, they turn out better painting their hands or feet, instead of dipping.  As for thinning the paint, I don't know that I would.  It probably would never dry.  As for doing one color at a time, again, it depends on what your going for.  If it's just randomness, whatever he'd paint, I'd just let him paint one color at a time, but not necessarily letting it dry in between each one.

DS ate a bit of Crayola finger paint while decorating his pumpkin. I bought it because it is non-toxic but  DH freaked and asked me to call poison control.  Before I even finished my story the operation assured me (and I than assured my husband!) that no harm would come to my baby.  Just an FYI in case he decides to taste test his project!

The downfall of reading posts off my itouch is it cuts of the subject lines... So all I read was "I'm going to finger" lol
