Parenting after a Loss

Anybody want a ring sling?

All of the raving from mamas about how much they loved them convinced me that I would, too, but alas, this mode of babywearing is not for me. I've worn this sling only a handful of times, it's practically brand new.

Originally purchased from Sewingmommy on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/Sewingmommy). $35 PPD, if anyone is interested!

  • I'm interested in hearing why you don't like the RS?? I've contemplated buying one.. for quick run ins and such.. but, I have doubts on whether I'd like it.. idk, RSs don't feel quite as "sturdy" in comparison to woven wraps or SSCs.. but, the convenience factor is nice..

It's very pretty by the way.. too bad DS isn't a girly :)

I just felt like I could never get it on comfortably. I watched lots of videos on Youtube and DD always seemed snug and safe, but bearing her weight on one shoulder (and probably incorrectly) wasn't comfortable. It's honestly almost 100 percent user error. Everyone I know that uses them loves them.

I wonder if part of it might be the RS you have...it looks like the one I have made of a bedsheet-similar fabric, and not a good, supportive, woven wrap.  I liked the idea of my inexpensive RS but not the practice, because the fabric just wasn't supportive enough. (It also doesn't look like it has the best shoulder design - but RS shoulders are personal preference).  However, I LOVED our woven-wrap-conversion ring sling (WCRS) for about a month....  until DD decided that the most fun thing in the world was straightening her legs and trying to pop herself out of it. I'm hoping we will be able to use it again at some point, because the ease of use was great, and it was even comfortable for me for an hour or so at a time.  But obviously the popping-out is no good :-).

Could be... it's a sturdy-ish fabric. Silly DD! What was she thinking?

  • Thats too bad, although I agree w/ the pp who said the shoulder design doesn't look great. I had one like that before I got my sleeping baby productions sling and it was horrible.. the sbp design keeps it spread out so it doesn't bunch... they key is spreading it out over your back before you put baby in and getting it pulled way down to your low back. But thats too bad it didn't work out. I feel the same way about my beco butterfly... its just awful. People rave about it but I just can't find a comfortable way to wear it... not sure how else since its pretty straightforward... but different strokes for different folks!

Yeah, alas. I mean, I know there are super nice slings and wraps out there, but I can't afford to drop hundreds of dollars on a carrier :/

  • If you're trying to get rid of it I'd give it a shot. I had a maya wrap with DD and loved it but since I didn't think I'd have anymore children I got rid of it when she got too big for it.
