Car seat help needed for 1 yr old

We don't own a car but we are traveling in a few weeks to CA.My DD will be almost 1 yr old that time (she's around 30" already).I guess we have to buy a car seat...but I'm not sure which one.

There is a chance, that we from NYC so we will actually need one permanently, so I want to buy a car seat that I can use in the future.

Can anyone recommend one?TIA

Re: Car seat help needed for 1 yr old

  • Are you driving to CA or just looking for one to use while you're out there?  If you're driving there I would look at ones that have extra padding - usually those are in the $150 and up price range.  We have the Safety First Complete Air 65 seats and those are good, and if you have the $$$ people seem to love the Britax seats.  However, the seats can be very bulky - the Safety First seats fit great in my Rogue but wouldn't fit in H's Accord.  If you're not driving and won't be using it much you could just get a cheaper one.  We have the Evenflo Tribute DLX's in H's car - $60, but we used the 20% off coupon at BRU and got them for $48 each.  There's not much extra padding and no frills, but the girls seem comfortable in them so they're fine for how much they get used.

  • Thank you,Jen.

We are flying to CA from NYC and will have a rental car, although we have family there. The Evenflo definitely works price wise and I like that it'd fit in a smaller car.I just hope it'd survive it in the cargo area of the airplane...

Just a tip for checking car seats, ask that they walk it down so it doesn't go through with the rest of the checked baggage.  Most airlines do this anyway, but you don't want the seat going through the checked baggage because it could compromise the seat.  You can also gate check it to avoid this too.  Ask when you check in to check your bags.

If you have to check it, take it in the origional box to protect it from damage.
