Low Milk Supply Routine - anyone else?

Hi -

I had a c-section and am still not making enough milk (2.5 weeks out). My peditrician has us on a routine as follows:

1. Nurse for 10 minutes a side

2. Bottle feed 1.5 ounces

3. Pump for 10-15 minutes per side

He said until the baby no longer wants the 1.5 ounces I can't go off this routine - has anyone else had this same issue, particularly after a c-section?

I am also taking go-lacta, which has seemed to help a little (it's only been 5 days since I started it).

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Re: Low Milk Supply Routine - anyone else?

  • I have not ever made enough for LO either and I blame it on supplementing from the beginning and not having a plan to get off supplementing. By the time I had enough energy to take action (7 weeks pp), my supply was already established and I TRIED EVERYTHING (seriously) to boost my supply and nothing helped. The only thing my LC said to try that is different than you ped's plan is to nurse 10 min per side then again 5 min per side. After that I would pump...

     Good luck!

  • I agree with Theresa. Maybe rent a scale and do weighed feeding. I would also feed longer than 10 min per side.
