To Mamma's with reflux babies...has anyone eliminated dairy from your diet? I just started eliminating dairy as I heard that dairy can contribute to babies reflux. Was this successful for anyone? Thanks!
I eliminated dairy from my diet because my daughter was sensitive to it(reflux). She was on Zantac and I was still eating dairy(before it dawned on me that dairy could be the problem.) I took her off the Zantac, which really only seemed to make things worse, and cut out dairy. It took about 2 weeks for it to get entirely out of my system but it worked like a charm!
I still have dairy here and there, and she can tolerate most of it. As long as it is in moderation(I don't drink regular milk, I drink almond). If I happen to have too much, or she has something in it with too much dairy her entire bottom gets a hot, red, rash, and she throws up a good bit.
DS was very colicky and had terrible reflux. I cut out dairy around 1 or 2 months. I just started adding it back in a couple of weeks ago. I had DS tested for the milk protein intolerance but it was negative. Still, his fussiness, colic and reflux were drastically better once I eliminated it. I tried eating it a few times here and there, and every single time DS would become crazy fussy by the next day.
I started by just cutting out really obvious milk sources, like cheese, yogurt and milk, and a calcium vitamin with lactose in it. That was successful for us. Others cut out everything. I would start small so you aren't committed to a complete dairy free diet if you don't have to be. I think there is an MSPI board on here too - they might have some good suggestions.
Also, we went from Zantac, to Previcid in the suspension liquid, back to zantac, and back to Prevacid (in pill form - pop the pill straight in his mouth!). He is doing GREAT now and the happiest baby ever.
