Relocation to Houston - Questions

There is a good possibility that we will be relocating to Houston.  The office that will determine our location is off Katy Freeway in Memorial. 

I am looking for a reasonable commute (hopefully less than 30 minutes), an area that has good schools, (I have a three, almost four year old), as well as the basics... has a hospital, decent restaurants, etc.

We are looking to spend appx. $300k on a house.  Any suggestions?  The company will help us as well, but I wanted to get a couple of ideas so I can begin perusing the internet.
