I asked our SW yesterday at our first home study meeting the details of the home visit. She said that she was really there to look for smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers. She said it is just a quick tour and she won't be going through our closets or anything like that.
I was concerned because our basement is a work in progress, and she said she wasn't worried about that at all. As long as there are no obvious safety issues we should be fine.
At least in Indiana, it seems like this visit isn't as formal as I was anticipating. If you're over 21, I don't think having alcohol in your home will be an issue.
