S/O carriers

Hi ladies!! I registered for an Ergo carrier, and had my heart set on it. However, we were gifted an Infantino ergonomic carrier. Does anyone have experience with this carrier? Mommies I know in my region are not big on carriers (it's all about the stroller for them) and some have even discouraged against spending much money on a carrier in case LO doesn't like it. If the Infantino is a decent alternative, we will stick with it, since we are grateful for the gift anyway. I just read so many great reviews on the Ergo....

  • I'm interested to see some of the responses on this. I was given a snugli which works but I'm not sure how I'm going to like it once my baby gets much bigger..

  • Ergo is a great carrier. I would keep it on your registry and keep an eye out for a good deal, on babysteals or whatever. I don't usually start using the ergo until baby is 5 or 6 months, so maybe you'll get one by then or find a good deal.
  • Infantino had a lot of recalls a few years back with babies falling out of carriers...but I'm honestly not familiar with this product.

Ergo is having a 20 off sale this weekend on their website, not sure if that makes them more comparable to infantino or not.

And, pp is right. Without infant insert you can't use an ergo until 4 months. You could start out with a moby which is only a little more than the price of an insert and see if it works for you before purchasing a more expensive carrier.

  • I'm generally pretty skeptical of infantino, and probably wouldn't buy one of their products due to some of the bad business practices they've had in the past. But I will say that I looked up that carrier and it does actually seem to hold baby in the proper position unlike most of the crotch danglers out there!

  • Thanks for the feedback! I will probably try to return the Infantino and get the Ergo. I didn't want to seem ungrateful or like a label snob, but I'm hearing less than stellar things about the Infantino, and I really want to have a great carrier experience. Will also look into the Moby wrap.
  • I have an Ergo and a Moby wrap.  I can't comment on the Infantino but wanted to chime in that the Ergo and Moby are two VERY different carriers.

I love my Ergo.  DD always falls asleep in it.  And she can nurse in it.  I was using it since she was about 5-6 weeks old.  I just put a rolled up towel under her bottom and held her head until her neck was a bit stronger.  I love that the weight is mostly distributed on to my hips.

I like the Moby.  There is a steep learning curve to it.  And if I don't get it just right DD cries.  And then I have to unravel and redo the umpteen yards of fabric.  But for those willing to invest the effort is mastering it, it is a very versatile wrap.  And I like that I can carry DD out with me to a nicer evening event without the sporty look of the ergo.

I could live without the Moby.  But I wouldn't give up my Ergo for anything.
