I've been thinking about this for a while now and just wanted to see what your experiences have been like the second time around.
I BF my DS until my supply dried up at 7 months, and I'd really like to make it to at least a year this time. I've been debating things like starting solids at 6 months instead of 4, pumping less and not using bottles as much as possible.
Re: 2nd timers, are you doing anything different?
This exactly. DS is almost 2 weeks old and I've just been feeding him whenever, which is actually more like every 1.5 hours during the day. Also, ditto what PPer said about not using the bottle so much. With DD, I pumped ANYTIME I was with family or we went out--I never nursed in front of them. Now with a 2.5 year old, I don't care any more---I don't have the time to pump and bottle feed, and am finally comfortable NIP and in front of family, for the most part.
My biggest change is deciding not to stress about it. I BF DS for a full year, but there were times when it was really stressful due to low supply and dwindling reserve in the freezer. If I have supply issues with DD, i am going to supplement as needed and be comfortable with the fact that supplementing does not make me a failure as a mom.
One thing we did with DD that I wish we hadn't is waited longer to introduce the bottle. We had a really hard time getting her to take it.
Also my 2nd baby is a better eater so that has helped.
