Whatever happens will happen and it will all be okay.
My doctor wrote 6 weeks on my FMLA paperwork but said if i need more time to just let her know. It really depends on a lot of things but if you don't feel ready to go back to work talk to your doctor and see if you can get more "doctor ordered" time. I plan on taking my full 12 weeks of FMLA so I'm not worried about it.
When I had DS1 I thought I was going to get 8wks b/c I had a c/s and my employer basically said the same so she put that on my paperwork before my 6wk appt... and then my doc put 6wks so I had to pay back the disability. I didn't realize it until after he did it.
I didn't have to fill out any paperwork for FMLA, my midwife wrote a note saying that I would be out until 6-8 weeks pp, when she put me on bedrest 2 weeks before I delivered.
I work for the school district, so the school board had to "approve" my leave - which they did after I started it. I got a letter after I had LO saying that my leave had been approved for up to 12 weeks starting with when I went on bedrest. I was able to choose when I wanted to go back to work within that 12 week period. I just have to have a dr's note saying that I'm cleared to go back to work. Which I just realized that I forgot to get yesterday at my 6 week pp appointment. Oops! I am not going back to work for 2 more weeks, I chose to take 8 weeks after LO was born.
