Baby Showers

Help with Registry?

My sister called me today and told me that my registry looked empty. I thought I had TOO much stuff on there!! Anybody know what a good amount of items to have on a registry is. There are about 50 people invited to the shower (although probably around 35 will come) and my MIL is throwing a second shower probably with about 20 people there. HELP! Also, if you have any suggestions on items that I'm missing, or ones that really aren't necessary let me know. All this stuff is so new to me.

Re: Help with Registry?

  • Neither one popped up, it takes us to a log-in page. Try linking the registry without being logged in. I love a good registry stalk!

  • I can only see the target one :(

  • From what I can see on the target one it looks like you have lots of stuff. Personally I would get rid of the bathroom stuff like teh toothbrush holder and soap dispenser. It doesn't really scream baby and just seems wierd to me, I can't see anyone wanting to buy it since it isn't "fun". Also, I'd knock off the clothes and the blankets, you'll get plenty of those anyways likely.

  • I didn't look...but I would just make sure you have a variety of prices.  Not everyone will buy off the registry and if you have everything you need (and/or want) on it then it will have to be "enough".

This. Don't register for stuff unless you actually want it and if people don't want to buy from your registry, they won't. And as far as clothes go... (at least in my circle of friends/family) people generally just see something cute and buy it because baby clothes are cute.
  • Your links aren't working for me, but for the number of guests you have, I'd aim for 100-150 items between your two registries at a variety of price points (some people like to make a basket or diaper cake with lots of little items, some like to go in together for a big group gift).

I'd include anything you would purchase yourself to use in the first year of baby's life.  I wouldn't recommend registering for clothes or toys because clothing stocks change so frequently and are different in different stores, it will be hard for people to find the items you want.  People also usually buy a ton of clothing off-registry and you'll get tons of toys as presents down the line.

I'd make sure to include: nursery furniture, bedding, diaper changing supplies, bath tub and supplies, swaddle blankets, car seat, stroller, PNP, swing, bouncer, nursing/feeding supplies, toiletries, and a monitor.

  • When I had a baby shower for my first child I went crazy with the scan gun at Babies r Us and really did not put too much thought into it.  I would make sure you put down important items other than the crib that may cost a bit so that a few people can go in on 1 gift.  I would rather have the big items bought than a lot of miscellaneous items that may not need.  I put down bibs and I must of received 100 bibs and everyone said oh every time I opened up another package with bibs in it.  Someone suggested to me to ask on my registry to get gift receipts because it is so much easier for returns.   I think a registry is good but unfortunately so many people do not check off what they have bought and it makes it hard for other people to buy without duplicates.    Good luck and have fun.
