how to save $$ on nutramigen??

our pedi gave us 2 sample (8 oz) cans of nutramigen on wed. and we just used them up last night.  he said we should only just need those until DS got over his "stomach virus."  however, i noticed his rash on his chest, neck and behind his ears cleared up while he was eating it, and the first bottle of regular enfamil he ate this morning, he vomited right away and started having mucusy poops again.

i want to switch, but it is SO expensive and we really can't afford it.  how do you save???

Re: how to save $$ on nutramigen??

  • I've seen girls go through their insurance company with it before.  And it sounds silly, but check your local Craigslist and Free Cycle.  One girl in my local Free Cycle was about to throw away 18 concentrated cans of Nutramigen and I got them from her...my friend's daughter is on it.

  • I get $5 coupons online at cvs.  If you spend $25 (which the nutramigen covers), you get $5 off and I use a check.  It makes it about $18 a can.  Not a great deal, but the best I can do.
  • My baby uses Alimentum which is the similac version of nutramigen....  it's $48 a case!  I signed up for coupons on the website.... so I get them at my address and my parents.... it's $5 off.  It's expensive but necessary.  You could try mixing half the regular formula with half the nutramigen
  • We get coupons/checks from a couple of moms that don't use formula.  We're only supplementing, but it's still expensive!

  • I just found a website that sells it in bulk for about $20 a can.  I just ordered a case of 6 from them since my DS goes through a can every 3 days.  They have free shipping and no tax (at least for California).  That saves a lot of money.  HTH!

  • I wish I knew!  DD is on Nutramigen and it has done wonders for her... we looked all over today and the cheapest we found it was $25 at Wal-Mart.  I found some on Craig's List, too... but that is hit or miss.  I need to figure out how to get Enfamil checks - help!

  • do you have a HyVee grocery store near you?  when you buy baby stuff at HyVee you get "baby bucks".  collect $150 and you get a $10 gift card.  add that to a $5 check and you can get it for like $10!!  it doesn't work every time but it does add up.

other than that - we've cut back on OUR grocery bill since we can eat whatever.  we eat a lot of pasta (store brand is cheap!) and breakfast for dinner.  not necessarily the MOST healthy - but it sure is cheap and bubba comes first!  it has done WONDERS for his poor little tummy, reflux, etc.  he wont be on it forever and we'll survive in the meantime

  • Definitely look on Craigslist. I got a free can of Nutramigen from my ob and traded it for Gentlease on there.

You can also hoard the Enfamil checks? And trade those too if you have Similac checks...
