WHY does he do this??

Ugh my baby is driving me crazy at night! When will they stop going through phases and just STTN?! He will sleep wonderfully through the night for 2.5 weeks, then wake up every night for a week, then STTN for another week or so etc, etc. It's never on and off every other night, he goes through phases in weeks.

I don't get it becasue nothing at all changes. I don't think it is teething or a growth spurt because he doesn't act/sleep differently through the day, he is getting enough food and sleep during the day. The only think I can think of is a developmental change, but I haven't noticed him doing anything differently recently.

It has been like this his whole life and I am just wondering when the heck he will just STTN for good :/ Do your babies do this?

Re: WHY does he do this??

  • Wait, were you in my house this week?  Because that is Allison 100%.  She will do wonderful for a week or so then wake up every two hours for a week...and nothing changes!  I have no advice other than wait it out...eventually they will STTN regularly...but it may be a long time!  A friend of mine has an 18 month old who still doesn't STTN - ug.

  • I'm jealous. At least your LO is STTN sometimes!! Jackson had maybe a week in April of STTN and then 2 weekends ago he did it 2 nights in a row. And that's it! MIL was telling me over the weekend that the youngest BIL didn't STTN till he was almost 3 years old! Yea, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks MIL. LOL

  • I think they just go through phases, just like when we have trouble sleeping or wake up to use the restroom.  They are kids and they will wake up.  My BFF's, nearly 4 year old slept great as a baby and now he wakes up multiple times a night to go to the restroom and he yells to her to announce it EVERY time!

  • I agree-I am jealous he sometimes does it! L has slept through the night maybe a handful of times-EVER.  Then on those occasions I don't sleep because I am convinced he will be up and I just wait around for him to wake up.  A friend of mine has a 4 yo and he STILL doesn't sleep through the night.  I also read that boy's have a harder time of sleeping through the night as well....great! I hope you get some sleep soon! I can't imagine how tired you must be!

  • I'm hoping that one day when they become teenagers they'll be like H and I and want to sleep until noon.  I'm expecting to catch up on sleep in 13 years or so.

  • Sorry...mine does this too. I get so excited and truly believe he's figured it out and I'll finally allow myself to stay up later and then he's up every 2 hours. Not fun!
