I use flats that I made from sheets (flannel and jersey) and love them because I line dry and they dry so much quicker then prefolds. I have done the special folds at times (origami and kite primarily) but at this point just pad fold in a cover as our daytime diaper as my son is six and a half months and started solids. If you are looking for a budget option and don't sew, a few jersey sheets from the thrift store are great because you can just cut them into squares and don't even have to serge the edges. I also found the jersey snappis easier than the flannel.
