mucousy stools

Our little guy has had major gas and reflux since 6 weeks he is 12w now. He began to have green poops around a month ago that has mucousy. I cut out major dairy and limited my peanuts, chocolate and caffeine and this has help tremendously with the reflux and the gas but his stools are still green
I have also been block feeding to cure an oversupply.
So my question is, if he continues to have green mucousy stools, is this ok as long as it doesn't bother him? My pedi had me bring in a stool sample to test for blood and it was negative. I have gotten conflicting advice so I would love to hear your opinions.

Re: mucousy stools

  • I'm pretty sure the green mucousy stools are a sign of a problem that you should fix. Is the oversupply corrected yet? If so, Try cutting out all dairy, even hidden dairy, for 2 to 3 weeks. If that doesn't help, eliminate all soy. GL!

  • From what I have read green stools are OK and are likely do to a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance.  However, mucousy stools (of any color) are a bad thing and something that needs to be corrected. If you LO is still having mucousy stools then you need to continue trying to figure out what is causing them.  I see you cut out a lot of the major foods that could be causing mucousy stools. Have you thought about cutting out eggs or soy? Those are known to cause GI issue in LOs.  Also check your pe-natals.  Some have diary and soy in them which could be causing the issue. I use the Rainbow lite brand sold at target which is dairy and soy free.  There is also an adult gummy sold at target that is dairy and soy free.  GL and I hope things get better!
  • Thanks! I guess all hidden dairy is now out of the picture as well as eggs and soy.
