Any tips for a plugged duct on the underside of the breast? I have an incredibly tender spot that I can't get worked out through feeding yet, massage is painful and hasn't worked, and a shower hasn't helped at all either. I'm away from home for another day and don't have my pump along.
Does anyone have any secrets on getting rid of a plugged duct?
Like PP said, try a heating pad about 5 minutes before you go to feed your LO. Then if it's not cleared after a nursing session, put some ice on it for about 10-15 minutes (any longer & you'll risk messing with your supply); try taking some Advil also (good for inflammation). Then heating pad again before your next feeding session...lather, rinse, repeat.
Try to push it out with your fingers. Start from behind the duct and push it along until it comes out of the nipple. Also try to do this while nursing.
