Breastfeeding

Help!?

I am not producing milk like I want and have been trying everything that the lactation counselor has advised! Still no luck, so I have been cutting back on the breast feeding an switching to formula. Now I have a lump in my breast does anyone know what it is? It is tender to the touch... Is it from not breast feeding? I hope it's not breast cancer or something scary! I am only 23 :

It sounds like a clogged duct. Heat and massage and bf or pumping can help relieve it.

  • That's a plugged duct. If you stopped bf'ing abruptly, that's why you have it. If you want to stop bf'ing, you need to do it gradually. Or you can always bf first and then top LO off with pumped breastmilk or formula, if you're not able to increase your supply.

The site kellymom.com has tips on dealing with plugged ducts [and lots of other helpful bf'ing info].
