Wild child

Does anyone else have a LO who gets EXTREMELY hyper when on meds and doesn't feel well? DS gets this way and he is so hard to deal with. I actually had him evaluated for spd, but he only sensory seeks when he is sick.

He has been sick now for 3 weeks and I feel like I'm going to lose my mind. He is on his second round of omnicef, Zyrtec, and breathing treatments 3 times per day.

No real point to this, I just wanted to see if anyone could commiserate.

  • The breathing treatments will make them hyper. I've always tried to give my kids their inhalers or treatments two hours before bed.
  • yes, it is the breathing treatments.  DS2 is on a few inhalers and we can't give them too late in the day unless it is for rescue because he gets wired.

  • Honestly, albuterol doesn't cause that much of a reaction. It tends to be the meds that make most people drowsy that make him the most hyper. He just gets really hyper when he's sick and it sucks!

  • Breathing treatments will make the most well mannered child a crazy person for a few hours. Liquid steroids are equally as bad if not worse. Thank god my oldest grew out of the constant asthma issues. Now I only have to deal with it once or twice a year.

It's definitely a combination of all the meds. The inhalers do play a major role though.
