Parenting after a Loss

breast feeding.. wet/poo diaper question..

Good Morning Ladies. Olivia is just over 2 weeks old. Are we still counting wet and poo diapers?  Initially, I was concerned that my milk didn't seem to be coming in as well because I never had the engorgement that I had with my son or with my loss at 19wks. I thought it was weird but our pedi said it's probably because I was induced. So at her last appt. I had to feed her there and he weighed her before and after her feeding and determined that she was getting enough. She was getting 2oz. He wasn't concerned.

That said, at that appt. she was still having tons of wet diapers and poos after each feed pretty much.  She's still having tons of wet diapers but I noticed yesterday that she didn't seem to have any poos at all.  Think I should be concerned about that?

She seems content after feeds too. It's not like I'm cutting her off and she's crying. She basically falls into that milk coma and that's it.

Re: breast feeding.. wet/poo diaper question..

  • I've seen many people say that BFing babies can go 10-12 days without having a BM. I wouldn't worry unless she starts acting like she is digestive distress.

  • The older they get the less often they poo! I wouldn't worry, as PP said, if she seems contented and continues with plenty of wets.

  • Totally normal. As long as when she does go its still normal not hard or dry and its all good.

  • There comes a point where you figure out what's normal for your kid in terms of wet diapers. Changes from that can indicate something is going on. No worries about an ebf baby not pooping for a week though. When they are growing they.often utilize every bit. As long as there isn't discomfort, it should be fine.

So much about bf'ing is having faith in the process and trusting your gut if something seems off. It sounds to me like you're doing great.
