Which carrier for baby #2?

Hi, all!

I'm thinking about this ALREADY and I'm not even pregnant (yet!) but hopefully soon.  DS is 15 months and I DON'T use a carrier at all for him anymore... He's been walking pretty well since he was 1 and he naps at daycare when I'm at work, so there's not really a time when it's needed.

For DS I, I wore a MOBY for the first few months and I liked it, but I did NOT like how much time it took to tie it on (by then he would be crying and not want to go into the carrier!)... I still have it, but I'm looking for suggestions for other carriers for a newborn/infant.  I also used the Infantino Union Ergonomic carrier as a front (facing me) carrier A LOT when he was older and even recently for the farmer's market... It was great for errands and in and out stuff.  I haven't used it in a few months but it was so easy to put on!

I also have an Ergo but I got it when he was 8 months and by then I was used to the Infantino so I just kept using that... I know they're not popular on here but it worked for us!  I also tried the Infantino "Eco Sash" but he never seemed to be comfortable in it, and I found it confusing, too!  I still have it but I never wore it.  I also got a bjorn that I never wore because it seemed WAY too small for our 9.5 pounder!

Anyway, a few questions:

1) I'm in a babywearing group on FB, and girls are ALWAYS selling carriers but they're so expensive!  A Girasol for $130, amazonas for $70, Didymos Eisblau for $145, and Gingko Tussah for $140... I have no idea (a) what these things are or (b) why they're so expensive!?  Any insights?

2) Which kind of carrier would you suggest for my needs?  I want something that is quick to put on (especially because I'll have a 2/3 year old!) and comfortable to wear, especially considering that my first was 9.5 at birth.  I also need to be able to put it on myself, which I could never master on a back carry.

Sorry the post is so long, but I appreciate any advice!

  • The Didy, Gira, etc are woven wraps. Like the moby but not stretchy. Maybe try a buckle carrier like a Beco?

  • I would try a Mei tai. They are easier to figure out and they are not that expensive. Woven wraps are pretty expensive and will take just as long as a moby. The Mei tai can be used from infant to toddler and for front and back carries. You can get one at babie r us :
