When they old enough to do it on their own and pay for it. I had my eyebrow pierced, so I don't think i'd freak about a piercing or two, I'm certainly not going to condone it at an age younger than 18.
Nose piercing = for a girl, 16, because nose piercings actually represented something culturally (a sign of being an adult or ready for marriage) before being hijacked as a rebellious gesture ::deep breath, step off soap box about how western culture takes stuff from other cultures and then just flucks it up til it loses any meaning and winds up being demeaning instead::
Any other facial piercing = 18

Soft tissue piercings heal and close after a while. I don't see anything wrong with 14. I think 13 is when I will allow it. It's not like a tattoo, it isn't permanent. Maybe I'm biased though. I've had so many things pierced.
I wanted my eyebrow pierced when I was 15. My mom said "ask me again in a year, and if you still want it, I'll take you. But you're paying." I waited a year and still wanted it, so she was cool with it. I took it out when I was 19 and I can STILL see the scar. Grr.
ETA: I personally wouldn't trust any professional who would pierce a 14 year old, parental consent or not.
The hole from a lip piercing never fully closes. Just wanted to point that out.
Mine closed up, but I had it less than a year.
Yup, mine closed up too. I had it for years and took it out due to pregnancy swelling. Been closed since June 2010.
I guess I mean you will always have a little mark on your lip where it was.
Nope. Don't have that either. The only 2 piercings you can tell I've had is my belly button and my nipple. the only realy you can tell is that they both grew out weirdly. I heal really weird though.
Re: peircings- at what age is appropriate?
Yea, this is how I lean. or at the very least 16. And I was surprised to
learn that the school (public) allows it.
I wouldn't allow it. Not at that age. Too young to start modifying the body like that.
A 12 year old neighbor of mine pierced her own lip the other day /facepalm
i think 16, I am almost 100% sure DH's answer would be never.

I'm more anti tattoo. I have one and wish I didn't. All my piercing I took out, no problem.
