Trigger

Has anyone had to give their own trigger shot of hcg? I just went to RE and I have two happy (almost) mature follicles 15mm and 20mm... They said I don't have to come back tomorrow but can do the trigger shot myself at home. Sunday will be IUI! My wife says she can do it but I seriously hate needles and I'm thinking about asking a nurse friend to do it. I'm just so excited and grateful right now I'm sure we will make it to Sunday! I have to go back to work right now after RE appointment, but I just want to revel in the thought that this could be it! That Clomid rage may have been worthwhile...

I hope you all have a great weekend! Send happy thoughts! Thanks!

Jen did her own. I was kind of squicked out but she just followed the instructions they gave us to the letter, and it was over fast.

I did my own.  I placed a piece of ice over the area to "numb" it and then alcohol swabbed it.  Then I pinched the skin pretty tight and just inserted it.  I did stop pinching once it was in so I didn't squeeze the stuff back out.

The needed is very short and very small so it was almost painless. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

Best of luck and good job growing those follicles!

I was too much of a wuss to do my own, I went to a nurse friend and she did it for me. I felt a bit like a baby because it was so so quick and easy :) I know lots of people that have done their own, but I just didn't have it in me to poke myself.

    Good luck!

It is truly, truly not a big deal.  I was totally freaked out when I had to do my first one, and then when it was over I was like, "That was it?"  It doesn't hurt and it's over quickly.

I was glad I got used to doing it myself, because once I moved on to IVF, I was doing one-two shots every night for weeks.

My RE told me I could do belly, thigh, or back of the arm -- but if you are doing it to yourself, you can't do the back of your arm.  You could do that on C, though.  I've never done the arm because I do them myself, but it seems to me that it would be easier there.

Thanks all for the tips! I'm not so scared now. I'm sure it is not a big deal. I'm still getting over how weird this process is for us, even though I have been in it for a while. I love seeing all the good news on this board and the encouragement!

Many blessings to all of you and your little ones!

And for those of us still trying - courage!
