So DH has FINALLY made an appointment for a vasectomy, and he is petrified. Anyone who's DH has had it done, what can I offer him for encouragment, etc?
So far, my "well I squeezed three small children out of my hoohah, you can do this one little thing" isn't really helping him feel better ![]()

Re: NMR... Getting Snipped
Make it a Double
Sorry, I can't offer any consolation to your DH, as mine is scared too. I've already told him there is no way I am getting my tubes tied, even if I have a c-section. I've been through enough with all the IF stuff, he can just go get himself snipped instead. My mom had issues after having her tubes tied. I'm not going to go thru that too.
My BIL had it done after three kids, he seems fine
TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
No help here lol just wanted to offer him moral support and some "U Kan Doo EET!!"s
I went over sterilization with my peri last week, because I can't ever risk another pregnancy for any reason - so I'm the one opting for the snip. She said that if we have to do a cesarean that she'll do the ligation while I'm there, but if we go normal delivery and I don't have to be cut open, then I'll just go back in a few weeks later and have them go through the cervix and implant a spring in the tube to create scar tissue - it's supposed to be highly effective (though not as instantaneous as a ligation) and have practically no recovery time
yay

It really isn't that bad, just make sure he ices his balls
Oh and definitely make sure he takes a sample in so you know it actually worked!

Sorry, I had to butt in! MH hasn't had a vasectomy but I use to work for a urologist & they did them all the time. Every man who came in for one was clearly nervous...if not petrified. Then when they came out they said it wasn't as bad as they thought it would be. The way the drs I worked for did it was just little punctures (instead of cuts) and the men were given numbing med beforehand so they didn't feel pain anyway. Don't tell YH this but one of the drs would have the nurse time him so he could see if he could beat his time record. He had it down to under 5 min all said and done. lol But really, it's not bad it's just the mental aspect of their "manhood" being messed with. Like PP said, ice packs and taking it easy for a few days and he'll be perfectly fine.

If you're wondering about my avatar...it's a fried pickle chip shaped like a fetus!
I love it! Hahaha
Just an FYI to throw out there....my close friend just had her 4th child - who got pregnant nearly 9 months AFTER the springs were inserted in her tubes. They are supposed to be one of the most effective forms of birth control. I the failure rate is only something like 0.2% so it should be 99.8% effective - yup, she would be the one in 1,000 or 10,000 - someone can do the math for me - my brain is fried after a long week at work! She was SHOCKED to find out to say the least!!! But everyone adjusted just fine. She just went a couple of weeks ago and had a tubal and then had the springs removed....
Thanks for the info. Do you know whether she had her 3 month post-procedure dye test to confirm complete blockage had occurred? I've only got the one tube to worry about, so I have a little less to worry about there.
