Xmas Stocking ?

Just ordered our stockings and growing up I never really celebrated Xmas (at least not this tradition).  Of course, with LO I want to start all the traditions.

So do you wrap what you put in the stockings, or just put it in there?

Do you have to fill the whole thing up (or do you stuff paper in the bottom)?

Do you fill your own stocking (cause lord knows DH isn't going to fill mine)?

What kind of stuff are you putting in LO's stocking, DH's stocking and if you fill your own your own stocking?

TIA!

Re: Xmas Stocking ?

  • So do you wrap what you put in the stockings, or just put it in there?  We wrap the stuff just because, I guess you don't have to though.

Do you have to fill the whole thing up (or do you stuff paper in the bottom)?  Ours are usually filled, but the stockings aren't that big.

Do you fill your own stocking (cause lord knows DH isn't going to fill mine)?  DH or my mom fill mine, but I know when I was growing up, my mom filled her own so I wouldn't ask why Santa didn't fill hers too.

What kind of stuff are you putting in LO's stocking, DH's stocking and if you fill your own your own stocking? For Connor's stocking I'm thinking a board book and a small toy. DH usually gets treats like wasabi peas, cashews, etc because he snacks all day long. Darn his fast metabolism! I usually get hand lotion, a cute nail file, maybe gum. Nothing to thrilling. When I was little sometimes I got batteries to power the other toys Santa brought.

  • Our family's tradition of the Christmas Stocking is St. Nicholas. It's huge in Germany and not so much in the US. It's popular in Wisconsin around me because I live in an old German community and our family is very, very German. On December 5th you hang the stockings as a family. During the night, St. Nicholas comes and fills your stocking. If you're good, you get treats and presents. If you're bad, you get lumps of coal. (my family has never done coal) Then, on the morning of December 6th, your stocking is full of treats/presents. We don't wrap them. We do little things. Like books, candy, movies, sock slippers and hair stuff for the girls, boxers for the guys. For Jackson, we will do little books, toy cars (age appropriate of course, puffs and a onesie or a new outfit.

  • Growing up, we always got stockings, and I'll do the same for Ian.  It was stuff that was not wrapped, and it was always 'little' stuff...chap sticks, body wash, candy, socks, underwear, make up; those kinds of things and it changed of course as our ages changed.  I will probably put, in Ian's, a new sippy cup, some new socks and onsies, some of his favorite snacks, maybe a 'chunky' car.  It does not have to be 'full' but part of the fun as a kid was coming in and seeing stuff sticking out of it.  So, yeah, put something in the bottom of it, if that's how you want it to be presented.  For SO last year, I did his stocking...it was full of his favorite candies, body wash, deo, chapstick (he uses a ton during the winter), and itunes gift cards.  No, he did not fill my stocking, I didn't even have one; but he did one for his cat...shows you where I fell in his eyes!  LOL

This is how we didnt stockings too! However, DH's family is from the East Coast and they do stockings on Christmas Eve. I don't understand. I want to do St Nick for Asher but I have to convince DH that it's normal. They never did St Nick.

Our stockings are knit, by my Grandma, and they stretch. My parents always put oranges in them to fill the empty space. i grew up in AZ and we had an orange tree in our yard so it was easy!

Do you fill your own stocking (cause lord knows DH isn't going to fill mine)?

DH knows that he is responsible for filling my stocking. We don't do anything too crazy in them, but I like giving him that one job that he knows I'm not going to help him with.

What kind of stuff are you putting in LO's stocking, DH's stocking and if you fill your own your own stocking?

I think I'll put puffs, maybe some bath squirty toys, new spoons, a sippy cup. For DH, it's our family tradition to put toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, razors, and some favorite treats. He does similar things in mine.

    TIA!

I would just do it! Or you could do both! DH's family never did it but he knew of it. So when we got married I did it for the both of us and just filled up my stocking myself LOL DH's family doesn't even do it on Christmas Eve! I really don't understand that!

So do you wrap what you put in the stockings, or just put it in there?

We usually wrap the little gifts...ie I got DH a Star Wars ornament last year, and I wrapped that...but we don't wrap candy or food items.

Do you have to fill the whole thing up (or do you stuff paper in the bottom)?

I find that it's pretty easy to fill the whole thing with just a few things.

Do you fill your own stocking (cause lord knows DH isn't going to fill mine)?

That's the biggest surprise on Christmas morning. DH and I agreed after several convos about Christmas that we'd do each other's stockings. He doesn't fill mine as much usually, but it's cute seeing what he picked. I add the candy and oranges to both.

What kind of stuff are you putting in LO's stocking, DH's stocking and if you fill your own your own stocking?

LO will probably have like a fake cell phone, some board books, some puffs, etc. And growing up, I always got an orange and a coke in my stocking...PJ will probably get a banana this year bc he loves them, and he doesn't do well with citrus.

DH will get some little sets of Legos (the $5 sets), probably an ornament, an orange, maybe a DVD, and some candy. Mine will have the orange, candy, Coke (DH doesn't drink pop), and whatever he gets for me. Last year, there was a romantic comedy DVD that had 4 movies in one (from Walmart) and a 4 movie Christmas one. He also put some cute gloves in it last year.

    TIA!

  • Growing up we always got elf gifts throughout the month of December. So those were our small things that would normally go in a stocking. Last year my B and SIL got us matching stockings from Pottery Barn that say Mom, Dad and Lucia. I love the elf tradition so I am not sure what to do with the stockings. I know it won't matter to Lucia this year, bit I'd like to figure it out!

  • I want to order stockings with our names, and we'll put little things like onesies, socks, and maybe a couple of little toys.  My big thing is I don't know where to put them.  We have a fake fireplace that's not too high, so if I put them on stocking hooks they'll yank them over.

  • I don't wrap what is in there but I don't take it out of the package it comes in either.  I do buy my own because H doesn't do stockings (but loves when I do give him stocking gifts!) and DS thought I was bad since the first year he was aware of stockings - mine was empty.

For my 4 yo I bought a new toothbrush, a new yoyo, a slinky and will put some candy in as well as a soft puzzle book.

For the baby, I will put in some new pacifiers, a new teether, and some stacking cups.  Just small stuff.

For DH I will buy some Lotto tickets, a new toothbrush, some chocolate covered bacon from a local boutique that makes it fresh with gourmet chocolate (YUM) and some Christmas boxers (that is tradition - I find the cheesiest Christmas boxers I can find).

For myself, I will do some chapstick, a new toothbrush, some new socks from Bath and Body Works and maybe a new nail polish.

I don't fill the whole thing up but I don't put paper in the bottom either.

I will even have a stocking for our dog with a new fleece blanket from Old Navy and either a new collar or some new toys.  And our guinea pig gets one too - he gets new chew things and maybe a new food bowl or treats as well.

We didn't do stockings as kids so I love doing them now - it feels more complete!

  • Our presents are wrapped in the stocking.

It is filled up with presents from top to bottom and usually spilling out the top :)

    DH fills mine.

DD so far is getting in her stocking a few ornaments, small books, puppets, socks, rubber ducks (christmas ones), wooden string bead set, and who knows what else.

DH is getting lottery scratch offs, gum, some candies, some funny things that I found like bacon flavored toothpicks.  So not sure what to put in his this year.
