Transitioning away from the sippy cup.

I am stuggling with how to completely get rid of sippy cups for my almost 3 and 5 year old. I feel, especially with my almost 5 year old, that they are too big to be using them.

I use regular cups at all meals at home for the boys and stopped giving sippy cups of water for around the house. I just tell them to get a drink from the bathroom sink.

I only use the sippy cups when I want to take milk to go. Like trips and to Family meal at Church on Wednesday Nights.

I don't want skip drinking milk but I want to retire the sippy. What would you use that is not a sippy but still spill proof?

Re: Transitioning away from the sippy cup.

  • I am probably of no help since we never used sippy cups but if you want a spill proof cup that is not a sippy cup, then maybe try a straw cup?

I really think you could probably do away with the lids altogether and just practice with regular cups.  We fill ours less than half way and rarely have spills.

For long car trips, we just do water in their water bottles.
