What random things are your LO's afraid of?

We found out last month that DS is afraid of pumpkins when we took him to a pumpkin patch to get a couple of cute pics.  He was happy as a clam in the stroller, but the minute we took him out and put him next to the pumpkin, he freaked out.  Last night, we discovered that he is also afraid of wicker baskets.

Re: What random things are your LO's afraid of?

  • Sophie is afraid of loud noises. She hates the vacuum, my hairdryer, and the food processor. No matter how much preparation I give her, or how many cuddles she gets afterwards or during (if Hubster is holding her), she always ends up in tears.

  • He doesn't like the vacuum cleaner. He also often cries in elevators. We use the elevator in our building every day and he is all smiles because he can see himself in the mirror, but if we are in one that doesn't have a mirror or glass, he freaks out.
  • Ava is also deathly afraid of pumpkins...good to know i am not alone!

  • I discovered yesterday during a play date...they had a stuffed pig that walks and makes snorting noises while wiggling its nose...it scared DS and I've never seen him scared. Apparently a moving snorting piggy is terrifying.

  • If he's awake, he's terrified of the vacuum, but if he's asleep and I run it, he never budges.  He jumps every time someone blows their nose.  You can sneeze and it doesn't bother him, but there's something about 'blowing' that gets him every time.

  • Peas!  Whole peas make her cry, for some reason.  Though we haven't given them to her in awhile, so we'll see if it's still the case when we try again.  I'm not sure afraid is the right word - maybe more like mad...

Have you seen the youtube video of the baby who is terrified of nose blowing? It's been around for awhile now but it's so funny!

  • Add us to the loud noises group.  The vacuum, blender, dog barking, and a super loud toilette flush at stores freak him out.  Sometimes he does ok, but if he is on the verge of needing a nap it is a total freak out.  Poor babies!

  • I can't think of anything he's afraid of. Is that weird? Connor doesn't mind loud noises, beards, animals (he thinks every animal wants a hug) and is always trying to climb or leap off of something and will let everyone hold him. It does make me nervous that he has no fear and I hope he learns as he gets old that we don't pet every doggy, etc.

  • Nothing yet other than her big brother's devil mask he wore on halloween but she only got scared after the 27th time he put it on.

  • Paul isn't afraid of anything that we have found yet, he's quite fearless actually, which is frightening all on its own.

However, my niece was (and still is) scared of statues and people in costume (like the Disney characters/mascots with heads). We had a person dressed as Barney come to her 2nd birthday party and she hid under the table and screamed until they left the room.

Hah, I've never seen the video, but N is afraid of me blowing my nose.  One day, I was giving her a bath and stopped to blow my nose - she burst into tears!  Since then, I leave the room to do it, or put a distance between us and then smile at her right after so that she knows it's ok.

  • Other babies talking. We had a play date with a woman my mom works with and her DD who is 6 weeks younger than Abby. Every time her DD talked, Abby got a scared look on her face and started to cry. I guess we need to socialize more with other people her age/size.

In that case, here you go!

  • Biki, I used to try and get SO to leave the room...he was a constant nose blower (worked outside and had serious sinus/allergy issues).  The only thing that ever realy woke him up was the blowing nose thing and it scared him to death, still does.  I could never get it through his head that any time he blew his nose it was going to scare his son or wake him up.  I swear he used to do it on purpose.

Mydawn, thanks for the link.  That was hilarious.

  • Not really random but just experienced it yesterday... the carwash.  I bought DH a carwash book and the special was that you get a free wash the day you buy it.  You HAD to use it that day.  It's like a 15 dollar value.  I didn't think DS would love it but I certainly didnt' think it would cause a meltdown like we experienced.  He was pretty terrified for quite sometime afterwards.  Guess we won't be doing that again anytime soon!!

  • Lyla isn't afraid of anything. She thinks the vacuum, the dog, grandpas bike helmet, strangers, sneezing, etc to fun.  I was just telling DH the other day that she has never cried out of fear of something and I was surprised.  I'm sure though our day is coming and it will something that we can't avoid like driving or sitting in a high chair.
