February 2012 Moms

Yes, that is my name...

I don't know about anyone else but I'm wondering what is wrong with people.

When I introduce myself as Nicole - call me Nicole.  When I introduce myself as Nikki - call me Nikki.

Why is it necessary to say, "Do you go by Nikki or Nicole?"  I just told you what I "go by" so why are you questioning it??!!?!

FWIW, I only use Nicole at work (and with my mom, she just can't get on board with Nikki for some reason!)

  • People at work call me Mel. My own family doesn't call me Mel. I've tried to put an end to it for 5 years. Now I just accept it. Haha

  • A lot of people call me Nat, which normally I dont mind. Not one person in my family calls me this; to them, I'm always Natalie. I only mind being called Nat if I just met you and introduced myself as Natalie, or if I dont really like the person.  I dont know why it bugs me, I guess it makes me feel like people are being a little too familiar with me.

  • I once had a student named Matthew. I called him Matt, because I am sure that on the first day of school, when I had the roster and asked what he wanted to go by, Matt or Matthew, he probably said, "whatever." I had him for two years and it wasn't until the spring of his second year that his mom told me he hates Matt and is always Matthew. I felt terrible! And he was in middle school, so definitely old enough that he could have corrected me long before that. I am much more careful with names now.

  • I despise when people call me Jenny.  I hated it even when I was young.  I'm not a huge fan of Jennifer but there was already a "Jen" in my department when I started at my current job so it was just less confusing for everyone to go by Jennifer.  In my personal life is anyone calls me "Jennifer" or "Jenny" I always correct them and say "it's Jen".  I think my strong reaction to what I'm called is why I'm so worried about what to call the girls because neither of their name shorten very well (I think I'm okay with Livy or Liv for Olivia, but I've used Nat for Natalia a few times and I'm not sure if I'm on board with that).

  • My name is Jeanine and I usually don't care what people call me. haha... I'm just not a fan of Jeanie, but that usually only happens if someone doesn't know how to pronounce my name correctly.

  • At least people understand what your name is. "Lancy" has been turned to "Lacey, Lindsey, and Lucy" so many times I just answer to them. I even had someone call me "Lansing", like Michigan. (strangely enough nobody ever calls me Nancy though.)

Don't even get me started on the misspelling of it.

  • I agree with Nancy, I mean Lancy!  At least they're getting your name close to 'right'.  My name is Jana...pronounced like Hannah, but with a J.  Not hard, right?  And there's no way to shorten that.  I get called everything under the sun...Dana, Janet, Janice, Jenna(this one makes my skin crawl).  Sometimes I just give up and answer to whatever I get called.

    Sup, fellow Natalie :)

My family calls me Nat or Natalie and I'm ok with either with them. At work, I've always gone by Natalie. In July, I got a promotion and now I manage 5 people. They ALL call me Nat and it drives me crazy, because it seems overly familiar.

Great name Big Smile. I go by Nicole at work, but everyone else calls me Nicki. I used to go by Nicole in college, but K-12 I battled teachers calling me Nicole because I hated it and wanted to be called Nicki.  Eventually, I just gave up at school!

That is so stupid.  I get Michelle sometimes?  WTF?  Even when I talk to someone like at a credit card company, they have my name in front of them but I still get called Michelle?  Idiots...

  • Michelle?  WTH?  I guess I could see it if someone had it on their screen and quickly looked at it...

    Michelle            Nicole

A quick glance, they don't look 'too' off from each other.  But that's still stupid, look and read what you have in front of you!

    Haha, Jenna. Verrrrry funny.

and, Michelle, I think people are too absorbed in other things and don't pay attention. It's infuriating.

Confession: Now I will have to sort myself back out and quit calling you two Jenna and Michelle.

  • My full name is Joanna, and I really can't stand it when people call me Joanne. Especially if they're introducing me prior to a group of people (I make a lot of presentations for work). Totes* my pet peeve.

  • Well mine is Julianna. I go by Julianna. Not Julie, Julia, Anna...it's Julianna. Pronounced Julie-an-na. Not on-a. My closest friends and DHs family call me Julz. I've been called Georgana, Mary Jane, Ju, Julie, Julian, Joanna, Joanne, Janna, Juliann, and I'm sure there's more. It's not rocket science. People also massacre the spelling of my name. I love my name though and I love being called Julz (by those who know me not strangers).

When my MIL booked my plane ticket to India - after H and I had been dating for a year - she booked mine under "Jan LastName".  Jan!  After a year she didn't know my first name.  I always thought she just pronounced it funny because of her accent; turns out she actually didn't know my name is Jen.

  • I'm Jessica and always got Jessie a lot. I HATE it. First, there was a girl I went to school with K-12 and she was Jessie, so I didn't like it when people got confused. Then IMO Jessie is a boys name. Which stemmed from my love of Full House (with hottie Uncle Jesse!). I'm either Jess or Jessica, get it right people!
