Fan in LO's room

I tried to make this a CP, but it wouldn't post.  Anyway, I read that a fan can greatly reduce SIDS and I always have the ceiling fan on the lowest speed in Maddy's room.  However, it's getting cold in there!  Do you have, or have you ever had a fan on in your LO's room for the purpose of reducing SIDS ?

Re: Fan in LO's room

  • I've never heard of that one. I guess maybe the constant airflow would help with reducing SIDS? There isn't a ceiling fan in his room but if there was we'd probably keep it on the lowest setting, too. That's what we do in our room.

Truthfully, I know that SIDS is still a risk but at this point I'm not doing anything special to prevent it.

  • I have heard it, but the fan really makes Colton stuffed up...So I opted to use it when the door is closed (when DH and I are still awake and making noise) and when we go to bed we turn off his fan and open his door to get some airflow.

This. We keep a cool mist humidifier going now. I know it doesn't circulate air. But we mostly used it for the noise anyway.

  • I have always had the fan on to reduce SIDS ( every season). I also dress her lighter than most would for bed.

  • We always keep the ceiling fan on in our kids room.  When it gets colder we set it to the fall/winter setting....which is the up position.  This forces the air up and down along the sides of the room I think, keeps things a little warmer instead of forcing the cool air down through the middle of the room (?).  I do like it on all the time though.

  • We don't have a ceiling fan in DD's room at the condo, and the new house doesn't have them in the bedrooms either.

I have a humidifier in her room, which runs 24/7.

  • I never heard of that! The fan in her room is kind of broken. It still runs but the base is disconnected from the ceiling so when it runs its pretty shaky. I never run it when she's in there because I'm afraid it will break loose!
