Do you generally assume they're pretty smart?
They have heard of Saudi Arabia. They might even know a thing or two regarding the Muslim religion...
Or would that have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
Random question.
Lol. True! It's a girl on an academic scholarship.... Does it make a difference if her boss and sisters inlaws are Lebanese, like she's around Arabic people all the time?
So a girl on a full academic scholarship with Lebanese friends & family doesn't know where Saudi Arabia is or anything about Islam?
bfp#4 3/19/2014 edd 12/1/2014 please let this be the one!

Thats what I was gathering.
Isn't Saudi Arabia like 1000 miles from Lebanon or something?

RTV: When you posted the pic, all I saw was the cop on the left, not the honey badger. I was super pissed for a second about to throw down about the cops being dumb jocks, then I saw the douchecanoe next to him. All is well again.
Oh no, not at all. I am glad you scrolled over.
Actually, I don't think many people realize how stringent the recruiting process is for Police Officers in most areas.
Honestly, I respect most people who don a uniform in the name of public service. Even the mail man because I love getting my coupons on time.

I would not judge intelligence or quality of scholarship based on a girl knowing where Saudi Arabia is or a thing or two about Islam, unless it was a geography or religious studies scholarship.

I'm so confused, what does Saudi Arabia have to do with full scholarships?
Just that the person is educated, went to school on a full ride, so they get good grades etc...
I'm not saying the person would need to know a whole history of Saudi Arabia, but to never even hear of it?
I guess that's why I'm asking, maybe I've only heard of it because of my family life... But I just think its weird to "never hear of such a place" she called it "some weird place where everyone is the same weird religion," she's never heard of...
So not just Saudi Arabia, but not never hear of a religion called Muslim or Islamic?

I just felt shocked to hear she's NEVER heard of it... Also her comment about "some weird religion" was like a head spin for me.
Crazy... She totally looks like that miss America chick too.
Ok. Maybe they have nothing to do with each other... I will assume its fair for a person who graduated college, full ride or not, to have never heard of Saudi Arabia. But I still think its odd to have never heard of Muslim...

Not necessarily. I would assume they can write clearly, are pretty good at math and can process information and memorize facts well. That doesn't necessarily mean they have a broad knowledge base. There's nothing on the SAT about the muslim religion, although having *heard* of Saudi Arabia and knowing it is in the Middle East seems like something most college students ought to know, scholarship or not.
-My son was born in April 2012. He pretty much rules.
To play devils advocate, you seem to think this woman should know a thing or two about the "Muslim religion" because she has relatives from Lebanon. Do you consider yourself to be well educated? because you don't seem to know that there is no Muslim religion. There is an Islamic religion that is practiced by Muslims, though. Also, did you know that Christian Lebanese Americans outnumber Muslim Lebanese Americans by 3 to 1, so chances are good, her Lebanese relatives shed no insight into Islam for her.
If someone gets a full scholarship, even if it's academic, I don't necessarily assume he/she is smart so much as I assume that s/he knows how to study.
I got a full ride (and I can tell you right now I'm not smart, because I didn't use it and went to another more expensive college, lol). I'd heard of Saudi Arabia and knew a ton about Muslims - but that's because I lived in the area with the largest Arabic population outside the Middle East. I probably wouldn't have known nearly as much about other religions.

Not knowing anything about and never hearing of it... Totally different.
I will except her not hearing of SA. ok. (although, I don't know anything about kazahtan or the philippines, I've still heard of them...) but OK. I take back she should know about SA. Lebanon is noy SA by any stretch... so I take back my judgement.
I wasn't expecting any fun facts out of her regarding islam, muslims or the middle east... but when a person from SA comes in and she's dumbfounded to hear about places in the world that have kings and people are the same religion.. and that she's never even heard of the word muslim... I mean, come on!? The biggest terrorist attack our country has seen was done by an extremest group that formed out of the Islamic religon "muslim" (and no, I'm not at all saying terrorist=muslims) but to never even hear the word "muslim" in the last 10 years is a shock to me. SHOCK.

Oh yeah! and we live in MI... about 20 mins away from dearborn. Her boyfriends friend lives in dearborn and she's been there before.
Re: When people get full scholarships to college
Depends if it is an Academic or Athletic scholarship.
Academic? 50/50
Athletic? here is your typical full scholarship athlete...
Sorry, I am just an LSU hater.

I would expect any non-American college student to know the difference then.
American College Students
International College Students
And don't say I'm good at profiling. That is illegal. Thanks.

I have a full academic scholarship right now and am going for nursing.
I am smart in some areas and dumb as rocks in others. So no I don't assume people with scholarships are geniuses.
