Adoption

Another Question-Choosing your Agency

Im in FL. Can you recommend your adoption agency and also whats a ballpark figure of costs?

Re: Another Question-Choosing your Agency

  • I'm not in FL, but I can suggest shopping around and doing research is best.  I'm in SD which has few agencies as it is compared to more populated places, but I got recommendations from several people, and went to introductory meetings.  I wound up choosing the first place we went to, but I had heard so many great things about it and it just felt so right there.

Also keep in mind there might be quite a few really good agencies where you live, but it is important that you feel comfortable there.  You are going to have to deal with this agency potentially for years (post placement visits, using as a go-between for you and BM) so you will want one that clicks with you.  GL!

  • I am not in FL either but I do know FL is one of the more expensive states for adoption.  I believe top 2 in costs since we were presented with a FL EM that wasn't a good fit for us.  A would say ball park from what we were told is $30-$40K.

  • I echo not limiting yourself to your state, or even an agency. There are regional and national agencies, you can work with some out of state agencies, or you could use a lawyer or facilitator (if legal in FL).

Ballpark will really depend on a lot of factors. Some agencies charge on a sliding scale based on income. Some states have birthparent expenses required, some aren't allowed. Etc.
