Re: ***PgAL Check-In***

  • This is my first post here. I've tested the last three days and gotten very light positives. We're cautiously hopeful and making an appointment with our ob today.
With the timing of baby Gary's loss last year I was anticipating that the holidays would be difficult. His angelversary falls right between thanksgiving and Christmas. Now with the possibility of a new pregnancy I find that it has just made all of my feelings more intense.
Question: how long should I plan to wait for my first appointment this time?we will be working with a high risk doc. Will that make a difference in how long we wait? Thanks!

  • Sorry, I was lurking... Congrats!!!!! Big smiles for you!

I already talked about this with my doctor... I won't be high risk, and have no history of MCs so my first appointment will be 9 weeks. It's the later part of my pregnancy care that will have increased monitoring.

I think that if you call your doctor they'll let you know!

  • Congrats lrichmond!! I called my doctor right away and they wanted to see me at 6 weeks for the first apt. They have me going in every 2 weeks and I will be going to the high risk doctor in a little over a week.  I am considered high risk as a precaution for this pregnancy.  It just involves extra monitoring.  Call your doctor and they should be able to tell you.  Best of luck!! :-)

  • How far along are you? What size fruit is your baby this week?I am 15 weeks and 1 day and baby is the size of a naval orange. Do you have any upcoming appointments or milestones?I have my first apt with the high risk doctor on the 27th and I am looking forward to meeting with him.   QOTW: The holidays bring all kinds of emotions. Do you find that this pregnancy is causing the holidays to be harder or easier than you expected?I have been a mess of emotions regardless of the holidays.  Being pregnant hasn't made things any easier.  I am kinda glad that I live on the west coast and we will not be traveling to my family for Christmas...takes some of the stress away not having to be around family members babies.   Open Topic. What is on your mind this week?I just want to fast forward to having a healthy baby in my arms!

Yay lrichmond! I went in right away for bloodwork because we were on a medicated cycle. I only did one set of numbers to check hcg and progesterone because my OB was fine with them and I was too. I think it was nice to have the appointment though, just to have a way to confirm and take one small step. We had our first u/s at 6w3d and saw a newly started heartbeat!

  • How far along are you? What size fruit is your baby this week?19w on Saturday, a large sweet potato.
Do you have any upcoming appointments or milestones? We just had our a/s last week, so our next appointment and sono is in 3 weeks. This Saturday I will technically be half baked since we won't be going past 38 weeks!
QOTW: The holidays bring all kinds of emotions. Do you find that this pregnancy is causing the holidays to be harder or easier than you expected?I know it will be difficult because it seems like all we talked about last year during the holidays was how this year it would be different because we would have a baby. I even went home on Christmas night and cried my eyes out because I realized that it was my last year as the baby of the family and everything was going to change! But now nothing has changed. It's like a repeat of last year but with a large piece missing.
Open Topic. What is on your mind this week?Just enjoying the movements I'm feeling and trying to remain calm in between them! Also counting down the days to Christmas vacation. I work for a college and DH is a full time student so our last day of work for the year is Dec. 14! It will be a nice long break.

QOTW: The holidays bring all kinds of emotions. Do you find that this pregnancy is causing the holidays to be harder or easier than you expected? I truly am not trying to think about the holidays at all. At this point it is one day at a  time for me.

Open Topic. What is on your mind this week? Monday could determine when I deliver I was expecting to go early but it might change next week and I am just going day to day.

    Congrats Irichmond!

You are so right the emotions that come with this new pregnancy are so intense.  To answer your questions; I called my Dr. right away and she had me get my beta levels drawn twice just to see if they were doubling.  They were.  Then she is sending me for a dating ultrasound at the hospital around 6 or 7 weeks.  And my first appointment with my OB is around 9 weeks.

I will also be working with a MFM/High Risk Dr. but I don't think I will start seeing him regularly until around 20-24 weeks, although I did let them know I was pregnant again.

    Good luck with everything!

  • How far along are you? What size fruit is your baby this week?

I am 4 weeks 6 days.  I think that is still a poppyseed.

Do you have any upcoming appointments or milestones?

My first ultrasound is the week after Thanksgiving, and I am going to be so nervous till then.

QOTW: The holidays bring all kinds of emotions. Do you find that this pregnancy is causing the holidays to be harder or easier than you expected?

The Holidays are going to be nothing like I expected.  I am missing my daughter so much.  This pregnancy is still so new, I don't feel like it has really sunk in that I am pregnant, and I don't know if it ever will.  I really just want to skip the holidays all together.

Open Topic. What is on your mind this week?

Right now I go from wanting to tell everyone I am pregnant again to never wanting anyone to know.  With my last to pregnancies, when I told my husband there was so much excitement, I cried and he quickly calculated when I would be due and thought that those months would be so happy.  This time when I told him, there was no excitement, not tears of joy.  It was a very solemn moment.
