Preemies

Taking preemie to NBA game?

My 32 week preemie is now 9 weeks old. She's great & does not have health problems at all. I'm the biggest Laker fan! I go to plenty of games every year. I would love to take my baby girl to a Laker game. My husband & parents don't think it's a good idea. My baby girl is vaccinated. I waited until her 8 week vaccinations before taking her out at all. Is it too soon to take her to a sports game? Or is taking a preemie to a game not good at all? What do you think?

Re: Taking preemie to NBA game?

  • I wouldn't do it.  My first son was 32 week preemie, born in October and I didn't take him out to public places until atleast February!!  Of course I would take him out in his carseat w/ a canopy over it but that was it.  RSV season is upon us and even though she is healthy, her lungs weren't fully prepared to be born at 32 weeks and still are susceptible to having major problems if she catches RSV.

At the end of the day, when in doubt just call the pedi and ask what they think.

     Good luck.

  • We probably shouldn't have, but we took our 27 weeker out pretty soon after we brought him home. Of course, that was in June, so it's a totally different story. With cold and flu season, I'm not sure that I would. In fact, he's almost 8 months old now and I'm still worried about him catching something this winter... If you do decide to take her, I would wear her in a wrap. That will keep her as close to you as possible, and help you keep germie hands off of her.

  • A game will be very loud and crowded. I wouldn't take any baby, let alone a preemie.

Agreed. I have a 31 w 5 d'er (so almost a 32 weeker) and I would never take him to a place like that. The doctor has approved us going out as long as people aren't sick and not touching him but you cannot control who you sit near or if the guy two rows back is coughing or sneezing or if the lady in line at the bathroom or concession stand is sick. Not worth the risk to me.

  • Don't do it. Its not just about germs but the noise and commotion. Treat yourself to a night out and leave baby home so she's not overstimulated. It's just not worth it and she's still so small and fragile.
